The park receives huge amounts of precipitation, from 87 to 126 inches per year, much in the form of snow. In the sub-alpine parks, or meadows, on the mountain's shoulders abundant moisture blends with volcanic soils and intense summer sunlight to create some of the most breath-taking wildflower meadows on Earth.
